Cases

Research on the Interaction of Platform and Product Clusters and Teams

We were involved as external experts in a working group focused on scaling a large technology company. During the project, we conducted a study of platform and product teams across 3 clusters. The research took place over 8 weeks and included calls with team representatives, analysis of documentation in Confluence, tasks in Jira, diagrams in Miro, OKRs, maturity models, internal platforms, dashboards, and metrics.

Key results of the research:

Prepared AS-IS and TO-BE topologies for the clusters, as well as internal and external interaction topologies.
Identified issues and constraints in the design and interaction between clusters, units, and teams.
Defined team types and classified interaction methods.
Provided recommendations for transitioning to Stream-aligned, Platform, and Enabling teams, reducing interaction variations, and compiled reports for clusters, units, and teams.
Selected metrics for assessing team states and types, and diagnosing interaction methods.
Developed recommendations for applying patterns from Team Topologies and handed them over to the working group for framework development on scaling.

Development of Engineering Practices in Platform and Product Teams

We were involved as external experts in a working group focused on launching an internal accelerator to develop engineering practices in product and platform teams within a fast-growing company. As part of this activity, we conducted a study of 4 product clusters, 5 platform clusters, and over 30 teams.

The research was conducted through calls with representatives from product and platform clusters, units, and teams (HoE, EM, TL), analysis of tasks in Jira, documentation in Confluence, boards and diagrams in Miro, OKR analysis, maturity models of teams, internal platforms, dashboards, and metrics.

Key results of the research:

Identified issues and constraints related to the interaction between clusters and teams.
Found problems and limitations regarding the resources of product and platform teams.
Prepared recommendations for updating engineering practices and metrics in the Team Maturity Model.
Developed options for launching and growing the internal accelerator, considering existing constraints.
Compiled recommendations into a written report, created diagrams in Miro, and delivered a presentation.

Research and Evaluation of Engineering Culture in Teams

We were involved as external experts in a team focused on researching engineering culture and creating a model of engineering practices for an enterprise company. The research was conducted through a survey, with participation from representatives of over 150 teams across 12 domains. The DORA Core model was used for the research, complemented by the approaches, practices, and tools used within the company.

The study focused on assessing specific aspects of engineering culture in teams: information sharing, collaboration, shared responsibility, attitude toward mistakes, and continuous improvement. The goal was to gather information for decision-making, discover new practices and processes, and identify problems and areas for development.

Key results of the research:

Created a model for evaluating engineering culture and practices.
Prepared an interactive report on the state of culture and practices across domains and teams.
Compiled recommendations into a written report, developed diagrams in Figma, and delivered a presentation.
